Offshore Platform Removals

The target year for removal of the platforms is 2020

The final major scope of work pertaining to the offshore facilities involves engineering, preparation, removal and disposal (EPRD) of the offshore platforms. This work will be undertaken by Heerema Marine Contractors. Heerema will remove the offshore platforms utilizing a heavy lift vessel that is one of only a handful of vessels in the world capable of lifting the topside and jacket components in a single lift.

Specialized heavy lift vessels are usually equipped with two large cranes and are complemented by a fleet of barges. Heerema will need the support of marine suppliers to carry out their work. The topsides and jackets will eventually be transported to an international demolition yard. In order to prepare for that transport, the facilities will be brought into sheltered water, where the process of "sea fastening" will occur. This involves securing the pieces onto barges for the ocean voyage. The target year for removal of the platforms is 2020.
